Provide direction and leadership to an NCAA Division I Field Hockey Program. Manage all aspects of team and recruit athletes to better the program and the school.

Duties:

Coach- Plan, implement and direct on and off the court instruction in field hockey. Develop coaching techniques, players and overall strategies; evaluate individual performances and provide leadership and instruction in areas found deficient. Plan efficient practices and individuals sessions to better the team. Watch film and break down video for team and use to better the team play. Operate field hockey program in compliance with department, college, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and College rules and regulations as well as for staff.

Recruit- Find athletes who fit the Davidson profile and who will better the team. Conduct comprehensive recruiting activities; coordinate with Admissions Office and Compliance Office, evaluate academic eligibility and possible financial aid packages. Communicate appropriately with recruitable athletes via, letters, e-mails, and phone conversations. Attend events to evaluate athletes, present Davidson to athletes and parents. Respond to recruits in a timely manner. Distribute scholarship in appropriately to recruits who deserve or need the financial support.

Organize team needs. Purchase equipment needed, oversee travel arrangements made by assistant, and organize food for the team when needed. Approve arranged lodging for away trips made by assistant coach. Keep the equipment on the field in good shape, water the field when allowed for practices and help with games days. Organize fundraising, public relation functions and professional development activities that will help get the name out there for the team and raise money to help purchase equipment needed.

Counsel team members- Stay on top of academic disciplinary and personal matters. Coordinate with administration and faculty in resolving those problems within their jurisdiction. Advise students accordingly when troubled with academics. Help with personal matters when a student athlete comes wanting advice or someone to talk to.

Manage Budget- Stay within the budget and use efficiently. Manage budget development and maintenance.

Schedule- Arrange the season game schedule, arrange practice times/schedule around classes and other academic conflicts. Arrange spring practice times. Organize workout schedules for summer break for the athletes.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and valid driver's license is required. Must have a minimum of three years experience coaching, either as a Division I Head Coach, or multiple years as a Division I Assistant Coach. Division 1 playing experience or coaching. Must have knowledge of field hockey skills, tactics, strategy and rules; familiarity with NCAA Rules and certification to recruit; demonstrated ability to teach and coach. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Recruiting trips are necessary. A trip to Festival in CA or Fla over Thanksgiving is required. A trip to the Futures National Championship tournament at the end of June is necessary. Trips to other small tournaments or practices are necessary.
