Goalkeeping experience is preferred. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach supports the Head Coach by providing leadership and integrity to the program set forth by the Head Coach which includes (but is not limited to) recruiting qualified student-athletes, organization of practice and competitions and assistance with academic progress and fundraising activities. The Assistant Coach is expected to conduct him or herself in a manner representative of the University, the Department and the sport both on and off the field of competition. Moreover, the Assistant Coach is expected to be knowledgeable about and comply with NCAA regulatory policy governing his or her sport as well as NCAA and conference policies governing recruiting, eligibility, ethical standards, playing seasons, and extra benefits. Evidence of the Assistant Coach's knowledge of rules and policy will be in the Departmental expectation that the Assistant Coach successfully complete the annually administered NCAA Coaches Exam. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and at least two years of previous field hockey experience as a collegiate student-athlete. Experience motivating and leading student-athletes toward competitive and academic success. Experience managing administrative tasks related to the operation of college level team sports. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred: -Master's Degree; -Division 1 coaching and recruiting experience. Required Skills & Abilities: • Ability to assist the Head Coach with personnel matters including hiring and supervision of undergraduate/graduate externs and volunteers. • Ability to assist with budgeting, scheduling, meal planning, recruiting, coaching, scouting, and purchasing and caring for equipment. • Ability to implement policies and guidelines for all field hockey personnel and student-athletes. • Knowledge of effective coaching techniques and best practices. • Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment. • Must be attentive to details. • Ability to lead and work independently as well as within a team environment. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Demonstrated knowledge of the NCAA rules and regulations. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. • Proficiency with the personal computer and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. • Must have a valid driver’s license. • * This position requires a background check ** • * This position requires a Valid, current Driver’s License ** Temple University values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other status protected by law.
